The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is accepting applications until April 9, 2010 for the Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship and accepting nominations until March 5 for the Courage in Journalism Awards.

The Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship is named for the Boston Globe correspondent who was killed in Iraq in 2003. She was a winner of the IWMF’s Courage in Journalism Award in 1998.

One woman journalist will be accepted to spend the academic year in Boston (September 2010—May 2011) in a tailored program designed to combine academic research with training in covering human rights. The fellowship is open to women journalists from around the world whose work focuses on human rights and social justice. Journalists working in print, broadcast and Internet media—including freelancers—are eligible. Applicants should have at least three years experience in journalism. Excellent written and verbal English skills are required.

The three-year part time(PGDM) Programme is designed to impart knowledge and skills in the basic and functional areas of management. It is meant for young individuals who are working as Middle/Junior level Executives/Officers in public or private sector organizations, but have not had an opportunity to acquire formal management education. Intro :
The world urban population has grown at very high rates over the past two decades. According to the UN-HABITAT State of the World Cities Report 2008/2009, it is estimated that by the middle of the 21st century, half of the world’s population will be living in urban areas.

While the urban population in developed countries will remain unchanged in the next two decades, the urban populations in the developing world will more than double. The majority of city inhabitants in the developing world are overwhelmingly young people, and are the most affected by issues of poverty, exclusion, and unemployment, access to housing, water and sanitation.

The theme for this year’s UN-HABITAT World Urban Forum which is being held in Rio de Janeiro from 22 to 26 March, “The right to the City– bridging the urban divide” seeks to engage practitioners and policy makers to rethink the urban utopia and identifying the best practices and actions in every city, creating a better world where everyone can live with dignity, respect and citizenship.

Young people living in urban areas can play a significant role in addressing the challenges facing decision and policy makers planning for and managing cities. Young people from around the world participating in the World Urban Youth Assembly on 19 and 20 March will have an opportunity to deliberate and make recommendations to better inform the urban agenda.

UN-HABITAT invites youth from around the globe to participate in the World Urban Youth Assembly International Essay Competition to generate ideas and solutions to address youth challenges in cities.

Essay Theme: “Right to the City: Bridging the Urban Divide”
Write an essay about the youth challenges in cities today, using your city as an example, to address the following questions: Identify and briefly present the challenges young people face in cities and provide solutions. From a youth perspective, identify the underlying issues that prevent the full inclusion of youth in shaping the urban development agenda. In your view, what can young people, working with their peers, community, local authorities and municipalities do to increase youth participation in urban planning and managing cities? We encourage you to give personal experiences and practical solutions

Essay Guidelines:
The International Essay Competition is open to all young people, students and non-students alike, between the ages of 18 and 32, from all countries of the world.  Essays should be typewritten and be no more than 1,000 words.

The oikos PhD Fellowship Programme intends to promote top level research in the field of sustainable management and economics e.g. in the fields of financial markets and responsible investment, emerging markets, ecological economics and Sustainability. Therefore, they invite applications for an oikos PhD Fellowship to join our international team of six international PhD Fellows at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. The Fellowships will be awarded for a three-year period starting in September 2010 and ending in August 2013.

oikos Fellows will have the opportunity to build upon an excellent research platform at the University of St. Gallen, a leading European management school, and take advantage of the global oikos academic network. Each fellowship carries a grant of annually CHF 36,000 and an additional fund of CHF 10,800 for research, travel and participation in scholarly conferences. Selection as an oikos Fellow is based on a combination of evidence of outstanding research potential and a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of sustainability issues.

oikos Fellows commit to invest 30 percent (1.5 days) per week to lead international oikos activities. Selected Fellows will have the opportunity to shape international key projects within oikos. They therefore look for entrepreneurial personalities with the ability to manage an ambitious PhD research project while simultaneously leading international project activities. • One can apply for more than one programme in a single form. For applying in multiple programmes candidates have to fill the programme code in accordance to their preference of programme as given in the application form.
• Applicants of PG programmes can apply for other PG programmes only, in the same form.
• Applicants of UG programmes can apply for other UG programmes only, in the same form.
• If candidates wish to apply for both UG & PG programmes he / she has to fill two separate application forms. However, all may apply for short-term programmes.
• Applicant can choose date of his / her choice from among the dates given in the application form. Maximum efforts will be made to accommodate on the given date and centre on first come first serve basis. However due to infrastructure constraints a candidate may sometimes be asked to appear on other dates /centre also.
• Candidates applying under the reserved category (SC/ST/Disabled) must attach an attested copy of documentary proof signed by the competent authority as admissible, along with the duly filled up application form.
• Candidates applying under exemption for CAT / MAT must attach the relevant score card along with the duly filled up application form.
• You are required to paste one recent passport size coloured photograph in the specified area of the form. The photograph should be pasted properly. A form without the same shall be rejected.
